Swine flu new 'terror' threat for Gujarat police Posted by: Vidya Iyengar Published: Wednesday, March 27, 2013, 11:28 [IST]

Swine flu new 'terror' threat for police Ahmedabad, March 27:

It's not terror possibilities that is worrying the Gujarat police. Instead, with Gujarat registering one of the highest number of swine flu cases, the disease which is spreading like wildfire is turning out to be a nightmare for the police force.

Now, the Intelligence Bureau (IB), has issued a warning about the possible outbreak of swine flu during the Holi season. Although they have also issued a warning about terror possibility dealing with swine flu seems to be tougher.

Lakhs of devotees have gathered at Dakor temple where the police worry that the air- borne disease will spread. Around 15 lakh devotees are expected to gather at the temple. "Our biggest worry is Dakor, which sees the highest number of devotees and such a setting is an ideal place for spread of flu like airborne disease," said a cop.

Not knowing how to counter the situation, the police has turned for help to the health departments. "Following the alert we have in all set up 16 stalls of which 6 will be in Dakor while 10 will be on the routes leading to the holy place," said Dr Patel adding that 'each stall will have a doctor, nurse and two attendants'. "We will keep an eye on people who may have swine flu like symptoms and will convince them to return," said Dr Patel. He said that 'hoardings informing people of swine flu and pamphlets about the disease will also be distributed'.

Sources said that terror alert was also received for Somnath and Dwarka also. In Gujarat, there are over 100 who have been infected this year while 103 deaths have been reported. They have had one of the highest swine- flu deaths in the country. According to media reports, Gujarat has reported 2,874 swine flu positive cases since its outbreak in 2009. OneIndia News
