His mission to correct this unacceptable anomaly has been frequently taking him to foreign shores, we assume with glowing tales about Incredible India. On a recent visit to Germany, Chiranjeevi and his wife Surekha had a series of meetings with the Indian community there. When he casually mentioned a nagging burning sensation in his eyes, someone recommended a visit to Santulan, a popular Ayurvedic centre in Munich. We hear the minister was pleasantly surprised when he was told that Ayurvedic massages can treat specific ailments, including heart ailments and liver conditions. After he received the Padabhyanga (a foot massage with medicated ghee which eliminates excess heat in the body), the much relieved and much impressed Chiranjeevi was given a short introduction to the many benefits of consuming Indian ghee. Your diarist has learnt that he even picked up two bottles of it for the journey home. Broad basing hospitality education high on MoT's agenda In a bid to broad base hospitality education in India, 70 CBSE Schools have started offering education on hospitality and tourism. The MoT has the target of creating additional employment of about 2.5 crore in the tourism sector both direct and indirect during the 12th Five Year Plan. This information was given by K Chiranjeevi, Minister of Tourism, Government of India in a reply in Lok Sabha. The measure is part of the initiatives taken by the Inter-Ministerial Coordination Committee (IMCCTS) constituted under the Chairmanship of the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister to facilitate resolution of Inter-Ministerial issues involved in the development of tourism in the country. The Committee includes the Member Secretary, Planning Commission, Chairman, Railway Board, Secretaries from the Ministries of Home, Defence, External Affairs, Road Transport & Highways, Civil Aviation, Rural Development, Environment & Forest, Urban Development and Secretaries from the Departments of Revenue, Expenditure, School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Labour and Employment and Ministry of Culture. Secretary, Ministry of Tourism is the Member Convener of the Committee. The third meeting of the Committee was held on 16th January, 2013. The meeting discussed seamless travel for commercial tourist vehicles across State Borders, tourist visa-on arrival (TVOA) facility for potential source countries without any security related issues and introduction of Hospitality education in CBSE affiliated Schools. Due to persuasion of this Committee, the restriction of 2 months gap on re-entering of foreign nationals coming to India (except in cases of nations of Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, Bangladesh, foreigners of Pakistan and Bangladesh origins and Stateless persons) has been lifted.
