Two teenaged girls from Haryana fled their homes in the hope of meeting actor Shahrukh Khan and hopped on to a train to Mumbai from Delhi. However, their dream was shattered when Government Railway Police (GRP) officers at Dahanu station spotted them. "The only thing they said to our officers was: 'Uncle, please let us meet Shahrukh Khan'," said an officer from Dahanu GRP. Sonia and her friend Rohini, both 17 years old, are friends and hail from Hisar in Haryana. The two are fans of TV soaps and had recently watched Khan-starrer Jab Tak Hai Jaan. They decided to run away to Mumbai to meet the actor as well as try their luck in TV serials, the officer said. On Thursday, Sonia stole Rs 15,000 from her mother's cupboard. The two then reached New Delhi railway station, bought tickets for Mumbai Central and boarded Paschim Express. "They knew that Shahrukh resides in Bandra," said the officer. Meanwhile, Sonia's father registered a missing complaint at Hisar police. Police officers then circulated a wireless message across the country with the description of the girls. The police control room at Valsad alerted railway officials about the possibility of the girls travelling on Paschim Express. Valsad police, however, could not act as by then, the train had entered Maharashtra. On Saturday, when the train halted at Dahanu, GRP officers and Mumbai childline members searched the train and spotted the two girls alone in a compartment. "When we asked them why they were travelling alone, the two fumbled and said they were on their way to their relative's house. Their body language, however, gave them away," said Pramod Davre, inspector, Palghar GRP. The officers then asked a woman officer and a member of the childline to question the girls. The two then broke down and confessed to having run away from home, the officer said. The officers took them to the Dahanu Railway Police station. The girls told the police that one of their uncles, who works at a diamond cutting unit, stayed in Surat. He was asked to come to the police station, said the officer. "We have sent the girls to Bhiwandi children's home and are counselling them," said Davre. The girls' parents have been informed, he added.
