Batting for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as Prime Ministerial candidate, eminent lawyer and Rajya Sabha MP Ram Jethmalani today said Modi would be the best choice for the post. "In my opinion Narendra Modi will be the best prime minister of the country," Jethmalani told reporters replying to query during a visit here. "I have already made my position very clear. I have nothing to hide (about Modi's choice as PM)," said the Rajya Sabha MP, who was here to represent a private company before Justice M B Shah Commission probing into alleged illegal mining activities in Odisha. Jethmalani, who had supported Modi for the top post last year while demanding that BJP president Nitin Gadkari step down, said the Gujarat chief minister should be projected as the future PM candidate. He had also said last month that he believed Modi was "impeccably secular". Regarding Shah Commission's functioning, Jethmalani said the probe panel is doing a good job. - See more at: http://www.indianexpress.com/news/narendra-modi-the-best-cho ice-for-pm-post-ram-jethmalani/1081060/#sthash.6z5LUIRo.dpuf |

BJP may be prevaricating over Gujarat CM Narendra Modi's chance of becoming the party's choice as PM candidate, but that is not stopping the saffron strongman's image from overshadowing the National Executive and National Council meet today - the party is expected to chalk out a road-map for evolving its strategy to project itself as an alternative to the Congress in the next general elections. After a third straight victory in the Gujarat Assembly elections in December, party members have been pushing for Narendra Modi selection as as the party's prime ministerial candidate for the 2012 general elections. Senior leaders like Yashwant Sinha and Ram Jethmalani have publicly suggested his candidature. While the BJP National Executive will hold a closed-door meeting tomorrow, its National Council, a broader body having members from across the country, will hold its two-day meeting on Saturday and Sunday. The conclave is crucial as it will be the first such meeting after the election of Rajnath Singh as party chief. During the next three days, the party leadership will discuss a host of issues including the internal security situation in the wake of Hyderabad blasts, scams including the VVIP chopper deal, economic slowdown and Indo-Pak ties. The BJP National Executive and Council will also examine details of how to take on the UPA government by highlighting its "failures" on the economic and security front. Sources said significant decisions like appointment of the new team of central office-bearers and elevation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan to the Central Parliamentary Board are likely to take place after the conclave. - See more at: http://www.indianexpress.com/news/all-eyes-on-narendra-modi- as-bjp-national-executive-mulls-election-str.../1081717/#sth ash.IJF0H2Qa.dpuf |
