Believe it or not, the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh headed by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, is virtually at the mercy of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi with regard to supply of additional natural gas from the Krishna-Godavari basin. This was made clear by union energy minister Jyothiraditya Scindia to the state government on Tuesday. He told the media that the Andhra Chief Minister had written a letter to him seeking supply of additional natural gas from the KG basin. âHowever, we are helpless, as there is a heavy demand from other states as well. We cannot provide additional gas supplies to any particular state, including AP. It has to look for alternative sources of gas,â the minister said. However, he gave one suggestion to Kiran Kumar Reddy. âThe Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation has been taking natural gas from its reserves in KG basin to Gujarat. Since it has surplus reserves, the Kiran government can request the Gujarat Government to spare some gas to Andhra Pradesh. If Modi agrees for the same, it can be allotted to Andhra Pradesh,â Scindia said. Will Kiran do it for peopleâs sake? |
