A deal was struck between the two political parties to share the standing committee membership for the next term. In all this, Talasani Srinivas, TDP city president, played a major role.

Following the changing political equations, it is now believed that there is also a shift in the strategy of the MIM, which has already distanced itself from the Congress on the temple-Charminar issue. �Singi r eddy Srinivas Reddy (TDP floor leader) giving up the demand for the general body meeting has a lot of meaning,� said a Congress corporator. Tenure of the standing committee will finish on June 20 this year and fresh elections will be held thereafter. Corporators have to elect 15 members in all, which can be easily handled by both the political parties with their strength of 44 (TDP) and 42 (MIM).

However, it is not clear if the understanding between the two parties is restricted to the GHMC. The MIM, which has landed in a soup of its own making, seems unsure as to where to go. There had earlier been talks of an MIM-YSRC tie-up as well.
