do house hold arguments ever come under this criteria where the argument is about mundane things so where do u place intelligence in this scenario...

If you ask the right questions, even the most mundane thing can turn into a stimulating argument - esp. with kids- of course if you are attached to the outcome of the debate, it becomes more difficult to be cool in any scenario:-)

wife/mother tho argument gelsina husband/son ekkada unnaru kastha seppandi

Enduku leru - ma abbaye unnadu :-) And I will take credit for that too cos after all I trained him in debate and argument

Good or bad taravata telustundi kani ee points matram religious ga implement chesanu in parenting :-)

:

Never try to discourage thinking for you are sure to succeed.

When you meet with opposition, even if it should be from your husband or your children, endeavor to overcome it by argument and not by authority, for a victory dependent upon authority is unreal and illusory.

Do not use power to suppress opinions you think pernicious, for if you do the opinions will suppress you.

Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric.

Find more pleasure in intelligent dissent than in passive agreement, for, if you value intelligence as you should, the former implies a deeper agreement than the latter.

Especially the last is so true - it gives me great joy when my sons can logically and rationally refute my stance without losing their cool :-) Lets me go into the discovery mode with the kids instead of the teaching mode :-)So I would recommend seriously thinking about it to all parents though it is against the traditional parenting wisdom :-)

A stupid man's report of what a clever man says is never accurate because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand.

Its interesting that many atheists get inspired from Bertrand, but he himself denies that he does not take feel certain about anything. a huge part of atheism is about the certainty of "Non-existence" of god.

rightly said....when atheists argue with Intelligent design followers, u see that atheists tend to become as rigid as ID people and in then end u will not see a rational argument but the extreme positions only....

Dr Russell once said, the answer to fanaticism is liberalism. whether we agree with it or not, he is undoubtedly one of the stalwarts of modern philosophy. He maintains liberalism's calm search of Truth, viewed as dangerous in many places, is the only hope for humanity.

here is his proposal of 10 commandments for a teacher.

Do not feel absolutely certain of anything.

Do not think it worth while to proceed by concealing evidence, for the evidence is sure to come to light.

Never try to discourage thinking for you are sure to succeed.

When you meet with opposition, even if it should be from your husband or your children, endeavor to overcome it by argument and not by authority, for a victory dependent upon authority is unreal and illusory.

Have no respect for the authority of others, for there are always contrary authorities to be found.

Be scrupulously truthful, even if the truth is inconvenient, for it is more inconvenient when you try to conceal it.

Do not feel envious of the happiness of those who live in a fool’s paradise, for only a fool will think that it is happiness.
the world of appearances may or may not be real, or both may and may not be real - or may be indescribable; or may be real and indescribable, or unreal and indescribable; or in the end may be read and unreal and indescribable - its all Syadvada
