It worked for me when i visited india. We went to india for 1 month and my kid totally switched to telugu. Another great thing is she knows telugu meaning for English questions. She make sentences in both languages. You can talk to your kid in both languages. After coming back to usa , we had chat with her teacher and she suggested one parent to talk in telugu and another one in english. This way she is can develop both. kids can learn as many as four languages if they are taught and introduced properly. i know couple kids in my circle with similar symptoms.. lotta patience is needed and most importantly when they grow old thats major problem. | ||

Gochi .. it is other way around for us. We spoke to our doctor as well as school teacher. Both said, talk in your own language at home and they can pickup english at school. In our case,our daughter got regular ear infections between 6 months and 2 years of age and the pediatrician asked us to go through the early intervention program and the hearing test to make sure there is no speech delay for the kid... luckily both the tests went fine fine but we were very scared during that phase...also the pediatrician(very experienced Indian doctor) recommended us not to speak in native language at home to the kid bcos the kid goes to day care and he said the kid will be confused with two languages and this might cause speech delay as well...once kid picks up and starts speaking in one language,he asked us to introduce the second...and now our daughter is 4 years old, she speaks english very well but now she is very resilient and we are struggling to teach telugu...Overall parenting a indian kid in US has lot more complications than parenting in India... | ||

What is this about kids having allergies here and none in India? Every kid born in USA has medical checkups regularly. How many in India had this checkup from childhood? Over diagnosis is another problem. Pediatricians here have some milestones for different ages and if a child doesnt meet those, he will be under the spectrum. I think its a faulty way of diagnosis. For example, one of the checklist items is, can your toddler tell the body parts? what if parents never teach the body parts and teach other stuff? Indian parenting style is different. Of course, environment plays its part. | ||

Feld, yep a lot of aspergers/autism cases in Indian kids are popping up recently. Autism and MMR vaccine controversy has been there for a long time. Even though FDC has regularly denied any link, there a lot of parents who vouch that the symptoms started showing up after the vaccine. However doctors think such symptoms show up around 15-18months which coincides with the first MMR vaccine. I am not sure if there is an link to gentically modified food, in the recent elections in CA, there was a measure to ensure the mfg's to reveal this info but it didn't pass. Btw, the kids you mentioned - are they stay at home kids or daycare going kids? | ||
