hindu: A fraud of rewriting answer-sheets of engineering course exams after stealing them while being taken to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University – Hyderabad (JNTU-H) for evaluation was busted by the police on Thursday after arresting 12 persons. Among the arrested were 10 students of different private engineering colleges in the capital. A book-keeper of Aryabhatta Engineering College in Maheswaram, M. Venkatesh, and postal department’s Mail Motor Service driver, C. Balu Mahender, accused of orchestrating the scam too, were held. Answer-sheets of students belonging to Bharath, Sreenidhi, Scient, Aware Madhavanji and Arora engineering colleges, an amount of Rs.60,000 and a Xylo vehicle were seized from the accused persons. Sums ranging from Rs.5,000 to Rs.10,000 per paper were collected from the students, East Zone DCP R. Jayalakshmi said at a press conference. Some students, who had failed approached the book-keeper to see them through. He knew the postal department driver, who would collect the answer-sheets from different colleges and deliver them at the university in Kukatpally. He collected money from the students and offered part of it to the driver who would take out the answer-sheet bundle and give it to the students so that they can rewrite the papers.
