A question to the musically inclined - why are there so few Muslims in Carnatic music as compared to Hindustani where there are so prevalent and dominant in a few areas. Is it because Carnatic music has a heavier reliance on religion unlike Hindustani and this might be acting as a hindrance to Muslims? Emaina reasonst unte cheppandi.i don't think it is music patronage by kings as even South India was ruled by the Mughals, Bahmanis, Nawabs for a long time..so Muslims would have found adequate sponsors down South too. There should be some historical and socio-religious explanation. |
