Filmbuff:I fall in the Chris Nolan camp. I detest 3D. Saw Life of Pi recently in 3D. The colours are washed out, faded, images lack depth. It is like wearing sunglasses to a movie. I have decided to stay away from every 3D movie.
I dont like 3d personally either. I belong to cinema camp :-), Visually: I love Nolan for giving the best images I've ever seen: IMAX that is. I love James cameron for avatar experience. 3d sangati pakkana pedite, Chris Nolan and Q Tarantino are embracing something that aint got no future. "Film". They are still doing films on "film", chudali enta kalam nadipinchagalaro, with arri bankruptcy and fuji's mfg holiday. I personally believe the day Nolan, Tarantino make movies on Digital camera, the film is officially dead. |

Filmbuff:What is this HFR? I get the broad idea but what is the technical reason behind it making the movie a TV like appearance.
hfr is high frame rate. So, this whole thing came to picture when cameras (the digital ones) developed the ability to handle high data rates and more importantly the distribution system became digital. How is it gonna happen: traditionally a movie is captured at 24 frames per second (fps) and the projection system is gonna project it at 24 fps. So, you see movie version of "live" action. If a shot is captured at 48fps in the same traditional system and played in 24fps projection system you are going to get 2X slow motion effect. what's new now?: guys like peter jackson and jim cameron wanted to make the movie in 48fps and project it on a 48fps projection system. So, in that case the shot at 48 show at 48 will make it "live". So,in this case if you want a 2X slo-mo your shot should've been captured at 96fps. Objective?: They claim your image is going to look good! especially in 3D both of'em are saying your eyes are going love the motion and strain is less. Jim guy is ardent 3D fan, so he doesn't want to leave even an iota of chance that will improve 3D experience lol. Technically it is going give less motion blur and less strobing artifact, which means more crisper image especially during capturing an object in motion or when camera in motion. This "cutting down the motion blur" technique will be used even telugu movies during fast dance steps or fight sequences to give the crisp image ( through cutting the shutter not fps though) But yeah this 48fps argument did not start with these guys. Only these guys are able to achieve it. Kani ee cinema okati hfr lo chusi veellani tittadam correct kadu, mana chinnapputnunchi chustanna "type" lo kakunda kotta rakamga cinema chudalante alavatu avvataki time padtadi definitely.... cant wait to watch hfr hobbit at gvk inox hyderabad. excited to witness an extreme turn "cinema" might gonna take :-) |

I think if you read Hobbit first, you will love that. If you read LOTR first, you will love that series. I loved hobbit and the humour in it compared to the serious LOTR series. My teacher read it to us in 4th grade. It's been a long time!:-) Too bad the movie is being split into 3 parts for commercial purpose. It's just them(production) trying to milk moviegoers of money. |

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2012/dec/09/hobbit-an-unexpec ted-journey-review This reviewer, who is usually quite reliable, has ripped into the HFR technology. What is this HFR? I get the broad idea but what is the technical reason behind it making the movie a TV like appearance. Moreover, Peter Jackson is trying to milk a slim book into 3 movies. I have not read the Hobbit (did not like the LOTR books too much) but that does look like exploitation. I hope he does not make this another disaster like the Star Wars prequels. |
