Chiranjeevi launches India Today Travel Plus's new web portal
-------------------------------------------------- ------------

Guess where you should be now? The answer is the travel and social networking portal launched by India Today Travel Plus magazine in collaboration with WAYN.com (Where Are You Now), the largest travel and lifestyle social media platform in the world.

The new travel portal, which was launched by the newly appointed Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi, will showcase the exclusive stories, pictures and videos of Travel Plus and also allow the users to share them on their WAYN network.

The portal will also provide all WAYN Indian users with more specific travel content and deals in a market that is seeing explosive growth domestically.

This platform can cater to travellers keeping their specific needs and interests in mind.

"When I heard about the collaboration between WAYN.com and India Today Travel Plus, I was very happy since this is a very unique idea to promote Indian destinations," newly appointed tourism minister K. Chiranjeevi said on his first visit to the India Today Mediaplex.

"It's really amazing to have not just a win-win situation, but a win-win situation as this venture benefits not just WAYN and India Today, but also the tourism department." Chiranjeevi, who recently announced two tourism awards for Ang Lee's Life of Pi for promoting Pondicherry and Munnar, was also happy to see the many studios which reminded him of his reel days.

"I have visited India on numerous occasions over the past few years, meeting with potential key partners and in terms of presence, appetite and understanding of social media, India Today Group (ITG) was undoubtedly the best fit," said WAYN.com co-founder and chief revenue officer Jerome Touze.

"There are numerous factors that suggest the growth in India will continue, including rising disposable income levels, a younger demographic and increasing use of the Internet; we are excited to tap into this market, develop ITG's online presence in the travel vertical and build a long standing relationship," he added.

Can 'Life of Pi' help India tame the dragon? The Indian government certainly hopes so.

Tourism minister Chiranjeevi on Saturday announced that director and writer of 'Life of Pi' Ang Lee and Yann Martel, respectively, will be awarded the national tourism awards for the impact the film has had in promoting India as a tourist destination. With this and the ministry hopes to target the so far indifferent Chinese tourists to their fold.

Chiranjeevi expressed hope that "this will go a long way in encouraging more and more film producers from abroad to shoot their films in India."

Every year, the Tourism Ministry recognises various stakeholders, including filmmakers and writers, for their contribution in promoting Indian tourism by conferring these awards.

The ministry has identified 'Film Tourism' as a niche tourism product and has requested state governments and Union Territory administrations to recognise the potential of film tourism and constitute special bodies to facilitate filming in their respective areas.

In February, the ministry signed an MoU with Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as a major initiative to promote the 'Incredible India' campaign and cinemas of India as a sub brand of 'Incredible India' at various international film festivals and markets abroad.

The MoU is expected to enhance the reach of 'Incredible India' through the medium of cinema, develop a synergy between tourism and film industry and provide a platform for enabling partnerships between the Indian and global film industry.
