Steven Spielberg Praises SKYFALL, Wanted To Direct James Bond We can put James Bond next to Star Wars on the list of film franchises that Spielberg wanted to direct but was unable to work out the details. While promoting Lincoln, the director was asked about the latest James Bond outing currently dominating the domestic and international box office. "I went to Cubby Broccoli and I asked if I could do [a James Bond film] and he said, 'No'. "I've never asked again. Instead, I made the Indiana Jones series." And what does he think of the latest James Bond film, Skyfall directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig? "I've seen it once and I'll see it a second time." Pretty hefty praise, all things considered. Do you think Spielberg's directorial style would mesh well with the intrigue and misdirection of James Bond? It all worked out though I suppose, if Broccoli had said yes, we might not have any Indiana Jones films. |
