they r both one and the same..what matters is that your employer (in ur case, a univ) has timely filed for ur h1b... as a matter of fact, there is nothing called h1b transfer..it is a phrase that we coined so extension, new, transfer - are all the same  | ||

if you change from one employer to another, should you apply for extension? I have a H1B visa working for one Univ and then moved to another Univ, these guys applied for H1b extension. Don't you need to apply for new H1B? | ||
