I would say software is an idiosyncratic market. For instance, a guy with 5 years of experience and a guy with AmeerPet training + 5 years of experience get more or less the same salary. What could be the main reason? There was a pent of demand as this industry emerged in the recent times. The peculiarity of this market was every firm wanted to adopt new technology immediately. Hence, there was no waiting time or postponement. Hence, software firms paid super premium salaries to retain as many software guys as possible under the assumption that they will have huge orders coming in future. More over, the margins are so high that the software industry had all the financial muscle to pay huge salaries. I'll give a small example in the Indian context which intuitively explains why salaries in Software are huge? Around 1994, in AP, there was a boom for aquaculture (royyala cheruvulu). When people realized that there were huge margins in aquaculture, they took to aquaculture in coastal belt of AP. When the prevailing wage was Rs. 100 in 1994, the aquaculture paid Rs. 500 to dig royyala cheruvulu. The factors that explain high wages in aquaculture around 1996 also explain high salaries software industry. Over time, the high salaries in software industry got equalized with other sectors. In other words, the existence of high salaries in software industry are slowly evaporating. The only difference between aquaculture and software is, the former (aquaculture) did not sustain for a long time and the latter (software) sustained itself as an important industry. | ||

what i feel is only because of the out sourced projects IT guys are getting more money in india. but if you compare between lawyers,docs,it and telecom guys in USA IT guys are not in top, in fact they are in 3rd or 4th position in terms of earnings.. only advantage for IT guys is more jobs and more opportunities anduke ala nipisthundi.. in other words IT based companies are earning more from eCommerce etc,so obviously any body want to invest in more profitable business, since IT based industry is fairly new field and less number of resources and more investors. so koncham competition untadi resources ki and they will get more for now. ippudu R&D based companies teesukunte valla R&D fail avochu leda success ayin bils of $$ ravochu,kani valla jobs stable ga untayi not like IT. And most facilities were available to broad spectrum of society. Now due to the divide, not everyone can afford the goods.
