you do not have to provide any proof. you can enroll in DC FSA and claim. Anyway it is very rare people conrtibyute ahead if wife is at home and there is no need of dependent care.

naa colleague (GC undhi) nanny ni hire chesaadu. he is claiming FSA for the amount he is paying her. Ofcourse, he has to give her SSN details while claiming ata.

if you are having family with kids.. try to enroll into spending accounts.

You can enroll during open enrollment (around this time around) or new hire or any family status change.

Health Care FSA - $2500 limit. use it or lose it. you can use starting from Jan 2013 until March 31 2014. and should be claim for re-imbursemnts by April 15th 2014.
Usually for medical expenses, co-pay (office visits, Rx, etc.). The advantage on this is you can claim the full participation (just say $2500) amount in advance for any eligible claim. If you are terminated or laid off or leave the job you do not have to pay the remaining payments. If in case if you already contributed more and have to leave the job (for any reason) and do not have bills to claim then you lose that money.

Dependent Care FSA: The limit is $5000. This is for day care, extended day care, after school, summer camp, etc. just you can say if you have care taker who can be cliamed with SSN or Tax ID. You can only claim the amount you have been contributing. You will lose the money only if you do not have eligible claim.

Health Spending Account: This is very usefule much better than HC FSA above. But you can enroll only if your company is offering Consumer Driven Health Care plan (CDHP) which is high deductable with low premium. You can enroll only either this plan or HC FSA. The limit for Single is $3250 and for family it is $6450 and for age 50 and above can contribute $1000 more than that. You will not lose this money. Usually Employer contributes some money to it. It will be in the bank for ever. You can claim eligible bill any time.

for 2013? it is the IRS limits for 2013. It was reduced from $5000. Say thanks to Obama. It is not company driven. If company participates in FSA they have to go by IRS limits.

FSA day care is for day care expenses at authorised day cares(They need to give there SSN or ITIN) number

you can set aside $5000 per year. this is use it or loose it. you can not make changes in the middle

it does not require that both parents be working

some FSA providers you can pay the day care center directly from them once you set up the payment link. it depends on your FSA account provider

To get tax benefit for daycare expenses, what is the difference b/w FSA & Child Care tax credit (during tax filing) when both husband and wife are working? Is there any benefit of doing one over the other?




FSA is use it or loose it.

Por example my kids are out of day care and now go to regular school.

But I may still need to send them for Summercamp in summerbreak.

They may not go if my inlaws/parents come. In such a case FSA doesnt work. Better take credit for Dep Care Expenses.

per family it is $5000. if you file taxes seperately from your spouse then max will $2500. Maa company lo we get a fsa card that we can use it to pay as a credit card.

you can set aside..but the catch is if you dont use it..you loose it. kakapothe if you have daycare going kids..you will go beyond that limit.

never used it so far... tax return appudu claim cheddam ante not eligible antaadu maa cpa every time.
