Chicago consulate lo cheyinchanu about 2 years back. No REASONS asked, paid extra money and collected the passport same day (I had INDIA travel plans that time, kept my Itenerary handy incase they ask for some thing). Not sure if rules have changed now. Visit consulate and explain your situation...
