Filmbuff:One reason i like a prime and i recommend for everyone is that it forces you to think about framing. Just like the cameras of yore which had a fixed length, here you can forget about zooming and just try to a good frame.
absolutely. I own a 50mm 1.8 prime as well and shoot portraits of my baby girls mostly. |

Jalsa:
Yeah, underexposure was my biggest problem with the standard kit lenses with their 3.8 or 4.5 apertures. Then i bought a prime. This lens cost me $450. I am quite improved but still unsatisfied. I should have gone with a 1.4 but that was crazily expensive. One reason i like a prime and i recommend for everyone is that it forces you to think about framing. Just like the cameras of yore which had a fixed length, here you can forget about zooming and just try to a good frame. |

Filmbuff:You can see all the Exif data on flickr. There is a tab called action you can click on above each photograph. I used only a 100-125. I should have used a 320-400. Now i am wondering why i didn't (i think because on the LCD screen they might have looked okay). I rarely go over 400, there is too much noise which results. My Olympus is almost 6 years old. Some of the recent DSLRs have less noise even at > 1000. I generally try to stay away from post-production so have to get it right at the shoot itself.
Still, you could have easily used a slower shutter speed to achieve the desired exposure. Didn't know about your DSLR they came out real good, though a little underexposed. Konnitlo framing baaga nachindhi. Digital SLR ye kadha, you could've tried and deleted if not satisfactory |

Even in food photography or macros, i prefer a higher shutter speed as getting the right focus is tricky. Even the slighest shake of the hand can kill the photo. I used to think doing macros is just a matter of getting the right lens. Now i realise how difficult it is. But as you suggest, i could have gone with a 400 and 1/80. |

ISO entha pettaaru? i couldn't get the details in flickr. Easy ga 400-800 pettukovachu and remove some noise in post-production. For the size we view at, that noise shouldn't make that much difference. |
