More than the marathon padayatra being undertaken by Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu since October 2, the Congress high command is said to be more worried about the “padayatra” of Sharmila, sister of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy scheduled to commence from Idupulapaya on Thursday. Having faced the impact of Sharmila’s tour during the recent by-elections that led to the rout of the Congress party in 15 assembly constituencies, the high command is learnt to have made enquiries with chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, governor E S L Narasimhan and PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana. The intelligence bureau is also said to have given the report that there would be massive response to Sharmila and that would neutralise whatever little impact the Congress has on the electorate. The Congress party leaders in the state, in fact, were worried that Naidu would be able to bounce back with his padayatra and would create a considerable impact on the electorate. That is why they reacted strongly to Naidu’s yatra. However, when YSR Congress party announced the padayatra of Sharmila, the Congress leaders had no answer. They are at their wit’s end as to how they should react. And their inefficiency is what is worrying the Congress high command.
