As Maharashtra PWD minister between 1995 and 1999, I had a series of roads, highways and flyovers built across the state including the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway, involving Rs. 8,000 crore. Gadkari has come a long way from his days in student politics in ABVP (Akhila Bharat Vidyarthi Parishad) and RSS shakha worker; his political trajectory took a leap when an MLC from a graduate constituency in Nagpur expired. His proximity to RSS leaders helped him gain entry into the Vidhan Bhavan. Even though the term was only for two years, Gadkari's path was chalked out very adroitly by a Nagpur journalist called Prakash Deshpande from Nagpur. Deshpande later became his personal assistant and key strategist. Incidentally, Deshpande some years ago was found dead near the rail tracks between Deolali and Nashik. The funny thing is all these allegations have been there earlier and some mags like tehalka have even given proof about these...no one noticed as Nitin gadkari has excellent connections in the media....and yesterday a high profile press meet from the IAC resulted in these charges gaining prominence. So Tehalka and some other people said - there is nothing new in this - all these allegations were there earlier - the proofs were also there. Infact last week's issue of Tehalka had a more damning expose on the BJP and NCP politiains of Maharashtra - A Rs.70,000/- Irrigation projects scam And see how people distort!!! | ||
