Startrek:

Weather - Summers are tough but rest of the year is pleasant
crime - like any other big city, depends on the area you live. Post-Katrina crime has quadrapled
food- there is china town where you can get chinese, malaysian etc.. there is indian street hilcroft where you can find indian/pak cuisine and ofcourse middle eastern too. You can find restaurants of almost any cuisine

Entertainment - Good night life, if you looking for one and desi movies are shown almost everyday. During summer you can see lots of desi concerts and activities too
beaches - There is galveston, though due to clay deposits and mud water erosion water is a little dark and might be unappealing. But you could drive down to Corpus or south padre
parks- kemah board walk and ofcourse there is memorial park too. But TX itself is a bit flat so if you are coming from North the city looks ugly
desi touch - Lots of Desis.. telugu community is growing in folds.
Only disadvantange to houston is traffic

downtown ki 1or 2 miles or even less...lo housing dirty cheap mean apartments..Austin, dallas,sanantonio, corpus christi all are with in 4 hrs drive, southpadre 7 hrs approx...spring break lo vellu..:D
