I don't know what made KRR turn his attention on this genre but people say he wanted to prove that he is better than K Viswanath in making devotional movies.

KRR lost touch with regular commerical movies and "bhakti" always sells in India.

BTW, K.vissu anni social ye kada...devotional emi theesadu..??

I am happy to see a neat devotional movie from KRR. No "boDDu" scenes, No item songs. No sarcastic characters. I wonder if this is the same KRR who stultified the standards of Telugu movie with mundane formula of 6 fights 6 songs etc for mere commercial success, who made NTR dance with Jayamalini, who has shown almost all heroin's "boDDu" etc. I don't know what made KRR turn his attention on this genre but people say he wanted to prove that he is better than K Viswanath in making devotional movies.

Being son of an atheist Nagarjuna never openly claimed he himself is atheist so lets believe he is a theist, but certainly I can say is a good businessman. I could only think of the reason for him to take up this genre would be to fill in the gap that TFI has by following his father's legacy. ANR openly rather proudly said many times that it actors that attract people not the devotional character that these actors portray. E.g., NTR used his left hand when he portrayed Lord Krishna's character and people readily accepted. So one way ANR conveyed that actors are powerful than underlying Gods/saints characters being portrayed.

I started hating Nagarjuna after watching the movie Annamayya, of course I never had good opinion KRR. One might wonder why? Annamayya was a great devotional movie maybe for common movie goer, but one would definitely hate the movie makers if one truly knows the story of Annamacharya.

As many people in this DB rightly pointed out it is confusing if it is boon or curse to see KRR making this genre. Those who are ignorant of our culture are blessed as it would be boon to them for for those who actually care our culture it would certainly be a curse. KRR insinuated many times his movies his wildest sarcasm on our culture and he used devotional genre as a tool to project it. Again ignorance is blessing.

Coming to this movie, Shiridi Sai, surprising there is no sarcasm. All is clean and well. Definitely KRR should join a mental hospital. I think this would be the first time in his lifetime that KRR made a movie without an item number, no "boDDu" scene etc. With Annamayya he started with sarcasm but with Shiridi Sai he turned toward the devotional path.

Coming to the content of the movie, though it is good movie by KRR, but it is no match to Vijayachendar's Shiridi Saibaba Mahatmyam. Vijayachandar's Shiridi sai mahatyam full movie
and Nagarjuna did not live up to Vijayachandar. Ilayaraja's songs still dinning my ears with Jesudas' unparalleled rendition. Keeravani's music did not appeal to me (for the first listening at least).
