Rohini woman shot in front of kid Early Tuesday morning, his mother Meenakshi Rana had hailed a rickshaw to drop him to his play school nearby. The mother-son duo was on the rickshaw when a bike-borne man stopped them and shot her. As several locals gathered around to console him, Rahul innocently told them that the rickshaw-puller had made him get off the rickshaw and fled, said Mahendra Sharma, a resident of Rohini Sector 16, where the incident happened. Considering the impact the incident will have on his impressionable mind, some women took him away from the murder spot. Rahul, who had celebrated his fourth birthday on August 28, was later handed over to his father Parvinder, after he reached there, said one Neelam, who lived nearby. Parvinder has alleged that he had been getting threatening calls from the brother of his first wife. "Prima facie it appears to be a case of family dispute and personal enmity," said a senior police officer. MA Rizvi, additional DCP (outer), said, "A case has been registered and teams have been sent to Sonepat to trace the prime suspect." Police said that Parvinder had married Meenakshi around five years ago without divorcing his first wife Ritu, who has lodged a case of dowry and domestic violence against him and his family members in Sonepat. "Parvinder allegedly preferred Meenakshi over Ritu. It seems that Ritu's brother believed that Meenakshi was responsible for his sister's sufferings and probably planned to kill her," said the officer. However, Parvinder is also under police scanner. Though he claimed to have been informed about the incident by an onlooker, police said his cell phone location was found to be close to the murder spot. Parvinder told HT, "My first wife's brother used to threaten me and Meenakshi. I suspect he killed her." On Tuesday morning, Meenakshi was on her way to drop Rahul to the playschool on a rickshaw, when a biker waylaid them on the road outside District Park, and asked her to get down. The two had a heated argument following which the biker fired three bullets in the air. To save herself, Meenaskhi hid behind cars parked nearby and behind trees, said a senior police officer. "The assailant seemed to have come prepared to kill the woman. He parked his motorcycle on the roadside, located her and pushed her to the ground.
