No. Only monitor the usage. But separating 2.4 and 5Ghz band helps using the bandwidth efficiently.

DHCP table on my router shows 20+ devices. Never a hiccup with bandwidth.

if you have original netgear firmware s/w with you..i think you can revert back to original factory settings...

nenu dd-wrt instal chesa, but sarigga work kaledu....almost close to brick...but somehow successfully reverted changes.

Do you have separate radios for 2.4 and 5Ghz on the router? If so, put all b/g clients on 2.4 radio and limit 5Ghz band for n clients. I know, roku wireless is 5n.

Nenu usually routers lo dd-wrt type custom firmware install chesta. It gives me the real-time bandwidth usage for each interface/client. Helps to debug the issue.

thanks bro. naa laptop (MSI brand) power socket loose ayindhi, battery futt ayindhi...i haven't been using since march. jan-march files external drive ki copy cheyadam marchipoyaa..i was looking all over and finally clicked about this old laptop... adhey NAS ayithe, by default anni NAS ki copy cheseyachu... RAID untey inka safe kadhaa ani.

Truelies brother, did you configure it as RAID? how about backup software? any recommendations?

Though my NAS has two bays, I am using only one with 2TB drive. So I didn't setup any RAID. But if you are planning to have multiple drives, you can configure that using NAS software itself. Synology vaid s/w peru DSM. current version 4.1. You can check the features in their website.
You can backup within NAS drives or backup to external hard drive connected to NAS via USB etc.

mana home usage ki daily back up avasaram ledu kada..usually when we are back from a trip or vacation or any function...will upload new pics and videos to NAS. At the same time I copy them to my spare desktop too manually. I don't user any special backup s/w.

my WD 2TB recent ga crash ayyindi. good thing is no data lost but drive went into read-only mode. but still under warranty so WD vadu free ga replacement chesthunnadu. :-)

speed depends on the hard disk and home LAN ..(nothing to do with NAS anukonta). i can stream 720p movies from NAS to my lcd tv using WD media player over my home wi-fi without any issue...

NAS is very generic term. Sample ga features ila untayi...

1. File server (for network storage)
2. Data redundqancy/ duplication (RAID or mirroring)
3. Automatic backups of network clients
4. Contents streaming (inside and outside)

Mee requirements batti choose chesukovali. File Server is the most basic, you can pick any ReadyNAS box for about $150. Add the hard disk of your choice. (NetGear ReadyNAS models support RAID)

WD Live models are good for network storage, content streaming. With cloud support, you can stream to internet too (about $130)

Seagate GoFlex models($180) is file server, backs up files/folder on network computers, stream content etc. Decent product.

Final ga Windows Home Server machine konte, you get all of them above with lots of customizations. But, Home Server has no love from Microsoft or any vendor. You hardly get any new product updates (you can find HP and Acer servers on eBay)
