US lo when a bank or money market fund collapses, funds cannot be withdrawn on the same day...meeku money vache time ki it may take several months or years... same thing happened with Lehman brothers. On a different note, Indian banks lo Gold deposit kooda safe kadu...There were instances where farmers kept their gold in the local banks...Later the gold was stolen by the bank staff and farmers lost their hopes. | ||

They are not insured but at the sametime till date no retail depositor lost money when banks got busted. When Global Trust Bank failed recently all depositors interests were protected after it was merged into Oriental Bank of Commerce.
