The reality and naturalness in Manichitrathazhu comes from the fact that Shobana's illness is brought out to the audience in such a way that we believe it. No special effects to thrill audience. Just camera work and music. Dialogues and emotions were believable. Of course, I am seriously biased towards Manichitrathazhu... perhaps others like Chandramukhi because they prefer masala over material. That's no sin too. | ||

It's not about showing naturally like showing violence or washroom scenes. It's nice to see reality in films in the sense that the hero is just like a guy next door, who can't beat the crap out of 10 people at one time. And films are not only for means of entertainment. They are actually a wonderful mass medium to communicate a message. The Kerala audience of the 80s and 90s were strangely accepting of a wide range of themes from their own society. In the west, so many films have made a cultural impact. It goes beyond entertainment. | ||

Telugu lo dub ayyindhi already ee movie..I saw this when I was in B.tech... cinema peru Aathma Raagam... cinema gurinchi emee teliyakunda theatre loki dooresam second show ki... shake shakeela ayipoyindhi theatre lo... evaru aa Nagavalli anedhi telvadhu...threatre motham pin drop silence annattu.. super thriller asalu... arachakam ga anipinchindhi first time soosinappudu... sobhana was at her best when lifting that bed and suddenly becomes normal scene... | ||

Subtitles undavemo. I saw a many of these movies in DD in the regional language slot. See a movie called Koodevide of Padmarajan. Also check out some others like Oru vadakkan veera gatha by Hariharan, Padmarajan was the greatest of them all, malayalam lo Mani rathnam level anuko. Unfortunately he died at the age of 45. | ||

I saw Manichitra thazhu on DVD (it has english subs) a few years back. Bavundi cinema. Shobhana got the national award that year for best actress. Mallu movies ni kotte vallu leru, as far as their diversity of screenplays goes. Seek out movies by Padmarajan or Fazil or Hariharan. Brilliant movies. | ||

was just reading online about malayalam cinema..and was suprised at the themes/stories and kind of movies they made in 80s and 90s...ranging from comedies to suspense thrillers, horrors, dramas etc....really awesome... real art.. manolu mataki mundu kalama talli mataki taruvata kalama talli ani pakka mindless masala flicks odultharu.. And Shobana... what can I say. Gorgeous woman with great talent who didn't shine in Telugu or Tamil. Have to also praise Mohanlal for being a sport and allowing himself to be part of the story, and not to have the story to be tuned for his superstar status. Chandramukhi was a silly masala flick tuned to be lapped up by Rajnikanth fans. | ||
