In any field seniors should be there.. and a right mixture of them with juniors should be there.. or else it would be just that glimpses of talent we see and they perish in the dark !!! -- now i ask you one question? who are seniors? only the guys playing for decades or lesser mortals who play for 4/5 yrs.... we can protect our icons with whatever reasoning we want...... a failing senior or a hanging on senior is enough distraction and nuisance as the example you mentioned above.... in your own example....Imran didnt stay and glued himself to the team even when he could have......that is called setting an example...... pakisthan detoriated as a nation not just cricket team.....for various other internal reasons......its not they are placed last in the rankings.....they are not playing because of other issues.....and coming to talent they have enough and everyone knows that..... talent can be honed by coaches.....not seniors.....acting as coaches and filling team slots..... bottomline......seniors presence will help juniors is the last line of defence used by icon worshippers and that is fading fast too..... nothing against you.....just telling the pattern........ we cannot play gundappa visawanath because technically he is great.....or sunny gavaskar....... there is something called shelf date...... in a world where cricketrs have 10-12 yrs playing time with other teams....we have people playing for more than 14 yrs easy....... if you want to reward juniors....make them coaches..... I will give you an example.. Take Imran khan who guided next level of pakistan bowlers like wasim akram and waqar who were very useful for the team in long term.. Even now pakistan has raw talent of fast bowling never went long enough because of no proper guidance..this is just one example I can think off..
