Sudigaadu falls totally flat in its earnest attempt to cram in as many "jokes" as possible. Some of those do bring a quick smirk on your face but most of them just manage to send you spinning into a vortex of guilt - "Oh yes! This is a parody of that scene in that movie. Now I must laugh. I must. I really must. Ha ha ha. That settles it. Oh, that's a joke I guess. I must laugh again." In contrast the original - Tamizh Padam - was sincere, unpretentious and was like a breath of fresh air. Some of the magical moments in that movie - Like the nonsense lyrics song and the hilarious and creative take on Michael Learns To Rock are totally missing in the Telugu version. In fact, the Telugu version just has a series of jokes. The soul of the Tamil movie is conspicuously missing in the remake. Sudigadu is still a one time watch - if not for the bland jokes - for the energy that Naresh brings to the scene. Ms Gujjar is cute and is a natural in front of the camera. Rest of the folks try a little too hard to act stupid that they really come across as idiots - not in a humorous way. Wait for the TV premier or the DVD. Naaku nacchindi janaalaki nacchadu... Janaalaki nacchindi naaku nacchadu... Nenanthe.. adho type. |
