Home of the Fighting Irish. football weekends [home games] konchem busy/active ga vuntundi. else mostly dormant. fall lo notre dame campus will be beautiful. basilica of the sacred heart and the hesburgh library and ofcourse notre dame football stadium. the painting of christ on the hesburgh lib tells you all you need to know. it is called "touch down jesus" - jesus gesturing a touch down. catholic and football crazy. that is what defines notre dame which forms the best part of south bend. went to school @ ND and was too busy having fun @ ND so dont know much else about south bend. there are a couple of indian restaurants - nothing fancy. but there is a burger place - called steak n shake. you get yummy burgers with some nice shakes and 7-8 years back they had some lovely wonderful waitresses. mostly under grad ND girls. there is also a wonderful italian restaurant and super-yummy breakfast place but i dont remember the names. all-in-all, if you want to have a nice quiet time in a slow neighbourhood, it is a good place. crime and all is not much, but it is geographically close to Gary - which is the THE crime capital of USA. people get mugged in gary even during day-time. winters can get nasty, you know chicago/boston style but you should be ok till halloween time and if you are lucky up until thanksgiving!
