Thikka_sankara:

so, if you process some one's dna, what information would you be able to retrieve? will it be information on the way he's built or his experiences, his thoughts, his dreams and his learnings thru out his life???

It depends on the person whose DNA we will process. There are lot of cells in the human body, nearly 80 trillion. So,if we divide them each into a library 80trillion libraries is no different from others.

For example:

If it is Einstein we will be interested to get his learnings through out his life and thoughts.

If its Shakespeare, then his experiences and dreams!

The points need to be considered are:
DNA information is never, ever be a static information.
DNA information starts from zygote i.e,it evolves from zygote and transfer to several forms and finally become intelligent child.

Human body cells have electromagnetic field.Human body runs on 7 to 10 watts of electrical power.Cells makes copies of them.

nuvvu type chesava bhayya idanta..

Yes

Basically I hate typing, but due to the membership in lot of forums and discussion boards changed my mind. And due to the participation in various healthy discussions I started typing. To explain our point-of-view in an healthy way it is better to type and explain it from all the sources and the knowledge you have on the subject.

College lo kuda naku C,data structures, matlab,VHDL lab etc lo type cheyyalante chiraku vachedi mood unte type chesevadini lekapote pendrive teesukuni velli pakkana vallu type chesindi naa system lo ekkinchukune vadini.

But,now-a-days due to my interest in Python language programming and Java I have been typing large programmes, for manipulating the game codes.

Stig:

Can we encode all of human knowledge into the DNA of some organism?

Yes,but not easy.

Stig:

How can organisms access data stored in their DNA?

Gamingfan:

DNA from extinct organisms that died 1000's of years ago can be sequenced and interpreted.

This can come other way around the technology called Artificial Intelligence(AI),it could read your brainwaves and thoughts.Somehow the biorobots from the end of A.I. dont seem to far fetched now.

Humans created big bang theory, what existed before humans created them?

Now think about encoding the complete works of Shakespeare and Einstein DNA(It would be awesome)!

DNA contains literally a code,by all means.DNA is a information carrier,it contains all the information to develop the functions of the body.

Stig:

Imagine being born with knowledge of every Wikipedia article, or even every website. What would that be like?

Consider that the amount of data humanity produces daily has been growing at an alarming rate for decades:Now have a look at the data we had 50 years ago, versus now.Now again look after what you are looking for about another 50 to 100 years.Magnetic storage is feasible now,but as time goes on,its going to become much less so:It's bulky, consider the heat and humidity factors, one power outage and you are liable lose many drives of data.

What researchers had done to my understanding is,barely more than proof-of-concept.They have achieved a storage density that would scale up to what title claims, but have actually managed to store 660kb.

DNA contains literally a code,by all means.DNA is a information carrier,it contains all the information to develop the functions of the body.

Now coming to limitations of my assumptions,it's not random access nor rewritable. It's latency is also too high for it to be practical for anything other than archival storage. The biggest limitation is synthesis and sequencing technologies,as we are making good progress it will not be an issue for much longer.

Now coming to the speed reading and writing of data in this way,I think it will be much smaller than that of HDD or EPROM,we can compare it to a tape drive for now.As the technology progresses hope, the speed will improve.

Finally,I am waiting for the day when I can inject nanoparticles into my bloodstream and to see the interweb infront of me whereever I go.That is called true portable gaming!

Combining the AI,BT and CS we can achieve great success in the near future!

Antha easy kaadu stiggesh...DNA is just a piece of puzzle...there are several downstream events that determine the cellular and bodily functions...cognitive functions ayithe inkaa complicated...but the idea of these fellas is really good...may be people will find some usable applications with this technology.

Stig:

Idi not possible, because cell machinery to decode DNA is to make RNA and proteins and not read it is a 0 or 1.

Genetic information is the most dense form of storing data. Its natural design. But note that sequencing is not fool proof. And that is a serious issue that needs to be tackled.

However the idea of storing information in the from of DNA is not new, it is a cool concept and works as a proof of principle.
