401K is considered as savings. My point is, your expenses are more with dual income because you choose a lavish life style. Be it the purchases, house size, the vacations you take. You can't save every penny of 2nd paycheck. |

one salary saving for around 150k-200k per couple is totally possible with a decently don't care spending style
but things change drastically with kids, mortgage( which could be 2 times rent in 80% cases)

You are right..Just because both are earning dosent turn into second paycheck is full savings.
1). You are bmmped into higer tax bracket
2.) It costs money to goto work, buy wardrobe for work, eat outside more (I am not saying that single income family dosent do al this stuff but when both are working they have to spend more to got to work and get the job done)
Definitely, it does make a difference if both are working
