quote:Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP leader Narendra Modi issued a clarion call today to India's youth that freedom to realise their dreams and aspirations did not end with the attainment of Independence on August 15, 1947. He said India's youth will not realise true freedom till the goal of Surajya or 'Good Governance' is fully attained. Modi's clarion call to the Youth came in the form of his Independence Day blog post. [Priyesh/Stuti: Hyperlink to http://www.narendramodi.in/chief-minister-narendra-modi%E2%8 0%99s-message-to-people-on-66th-independence-day/] Recounting Gujarat's unbreakable bond with India's freedom struggle, Modi called on the youth to live up to the ideals of the pillars of the independence movement – Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel. He also stressed that it was our responsibility to realise the dreams of these giants while seeking inspiration from their life story. According to Modi, "August 15 cannot merely be commemorated as a day when our flag changed or when our colonial rulers paved way for Indian administrators. It should be a call to make determined efforts towards the attainment of Surajya." Expanding further on the theme of how independence and freedom must become synonymous with good governance, Modi recounted how governance in Gujarat has made a difference, drawing inspiration from the three colors of the National Tricolour. Making a subtle point on how despite gaining independence India has still not attained freedom from blackouts and powecuts, Modi praised Gujarat’s power sector for "ushering in a revolution in energy" to “complement the very feel of the colour Saffron". He hailed Gujarat for its success in milk production, salt production and cotton production to state that "Gujarat has indeed made the colour White brighter with development". Lastly, Modi pointed out that "despite being a State struck by the issue of water shortage, Gujarat with Green Revolution has shown to the world what agriculture growth is!" To further elaborate on how there is no freedom without good governance, Modi went on to recount numerous instances of misgovernance by the Congress-led UPA Government and its impact on the nation, ranging from imposing power blackouts to holding back the progress of States. Modi also made a sharp point on how the Congress of today has attempted to falsely take credit for the freedom struggle of the past while insulting the memory of the lakhs of ordinary Indians who fought for our freedom while owing no allegiance to the Congress's present politics. He wondered what was holding the Congress back from giving true freedom to India's middle class from economic hardships since the Congress was falsely claiming to have created the middle class. Recognising the strengths of a Vibrant Young India, Modi called upon the youth to become partners in India's development and work with determination on making India a torchbearer of 'Surajya' or 'Good Governance'.
