generally $3 billion to $5 billion is spent by host countries,but it depends on cost and if host country is willing to spend more to make the games more successful!China spent 5 to 8 times of money to host 2008 olympics -- developing countries.....and countries whoo wanted to show they have arrived....put blood into it.....even with govt backing.....to show the world..... developed countries dont have that pressure.....they just need to meet the standards...... i'm sure Brazil will rock it...... this is my concern..... If hosting olympics is taken as a criteria......what would it bring to the country and its sport..... he would have done that....he would have done this...... hosting......is different from creating a sport ethic.....in the lifes of children..... my complaint is always this......sports federations are run by adminstrators who are political jokers......when this changes......running of the federations will be better.....which will push for higher competition.....and more international/national meets....sponsored by private sponsors and then....the final push.....to host something big..... Vision should be to improve sports in general....not hosting....them with fireworks...... when we hosted the games before....after hosting the.venues are locked for normal access and they rottened after that...... our athletes have to go back to substandard facilities and practise......this is the reason who can afford practise outside......except for sushil kind of guys.... with all due respect.......as someone mentioned here...what would F1 bring to India and its sport? India still has an opportunity, but knowing the country’s hesitancy and inferiority complex, it will be a long while and some dynamic, enterprising and gutsy leaders and officials to get together and decide to hold the Olympics.
