It’s not party time for Chiru Hyderabad, June 15: One has heard about factions plaguing parties after the honeymoon was over and the parties have spent considerable time in the political cauldron. But for a party which is yet to see the light of the day, factions and infighting are unheard of. If grapevine is to be believed, serious power struggle is haunting Chiranjeevi’s dream project. There are not just one or two factions, but five power centres jostling for supremacy. The major group is led by Chiranjeevi’s Man Friday and brother-in-law, Allu Aravind, and friend, guide and philosopher, Dr P. Mitra Reddy. A core committee that consists of Nagendra Babu, Allu Aravind, Vinay Kumar, Mitra Reddy, Prasad Reddy, Brahma Reddy and Sridhar Reddy is overseeing the launch of the party. It is said that Sridhar Reddy has become inactive. Disgusted with the pull and push, Mitra Reddy, too, has stopped going to the Geeta Arts office, which will eventually become the party headquarters. All this while, the power struggle was kept under wraps, but reporters got a whiff of it when Allu Aravind’s announcement of the launch date in August was retorted by Nagendra Babu, who said nothing has been decided and his brother would make an announcement. On Sunday, Nagendra Babu formally confirmed Chiranjeevi’s political entry and exhorted his fans to "keep going." "However, Chiranjeevi’s brothers want to stake their claim and hence the friction," a source close to the actor said. Meanwhile, Vinay Kumar is also trying to take control of party affairs. He has directed Chiranjeevi fan clubs in various districts to open party offices and has even "selected" 120 candidates for the coming elections. As if this was not enough, another group has emerged, led by the All India Chiranjeevi Yuva Sena general secretary, Mr Swami Naidu. He is apparently the bridge between Chiranjeevi and his fans. Strangely, the youngest brother, actor Pavan Kalyan, who was instrumental in shaping Chiranjeevi’s political move, has maintained his silence. Irked by the power struggles, Chiranjeevi has gone off to an undisclosed location for vacation. |
