I found white tiger so average, it was so undeserving of the booker. I wrote a review of the book tearing it apart. I gave up on the bookers when they rewarded some random book over cloud atlas. | ||

Just finished reading. I know there are some book savvys here, so wanted to state my opinion. This book is the first of three 'shiva trilogy' by the author amish tripathi. He is an IIM graduate and this is his first book which was #1 best seller in India. Plot: The story is set during 1900BC in the land of Meluha hitherto known as land of sapth-sindhu/seven rivers, aka indus valley civilization. While Meluha aka Suryavanshi kingdom is on western gangetic plains, chandravanshi's is on eastern side. Meluha was started by Lord Sri Ram 5000 years ago - Its a beautiful kingdom ( If you are Game of thrones fan like me, the description is comprable to my favourite city of Quarth ), perfect society, the greatest civilization on earth - ruled by the codes designed by lord Ram.But now its existence is in peril. The whole kingdom of Meluha is on look for the saviour. The rest of story entails how they find Shiva, the rescuer in some remote himalyan foothills, and how he restablishes Rama Rajya in Meluha once again. It also describes how a tribal leader shiva transforms to a god. Good stuff: Pretty novel plot. He combined mythological story with modren story telling. Some times the story is same as what you know and some times it deviates. Basically this is fiction. you will find it amazing or amusing to see shiva talking about anti-oxidants . It also has all the characters in shiva puranam - parvathi, daksha, brihaspati, nandi, veerabhadra etc. its evident that author was clever enough to gather attention by doing this becuase nothign sells like religion backhome. Bad stuff: Pretty weak dialogue on many occasions. Some chapters can get boring coz of the lame narration. On the whole, definitely readable. Karan Johar is planning for a movie make with Hrithik roshan as lord shiva. |
