GOOD - 1950s lo Hollywood movies konni chooste naku old Hindi black and white movies with Madhubala vesina movies full lift ani anipinchindi. For a long time, as a society, India is adopting western life in every aspect unfortunately. Last 20 years lo accelerate ayyindi. In this trend, lot of movies in Telugu simply copied western movies. Its funny that we live in America and we pay money to watch Telugu movies made in India that show American styles :-) Copying has been going on for several decades. Chiranjeevi chala dances Miachael Jackson steps just for example. But he has become a Megastar. So we all contributed to plagiarism in different ways. Reality is "we do not mind copying, as long as it is presented interestingly". That is why we liked Magadheera, Maryada Ramanna etc. In a sense, it is like saying "andaru dabbu tintunnaaru, atleast, this guys is doing something for public" type lo. In that sense, Rajamouli is better than most directors. BAD - RM copy kottaadu ani atani movies piracy cheyyatam correct kaadu. Legally adi yenta correcto teliyadu. Lot of NRIs pirated movies choostaru. Reason from NRIs range from price, convenience, distance etc. So when a movie is available for free, why not. We need Telugu movies and no matter how we get it. A huge loss to movie makers and distributors, for sure. That is why they are jacking up prices in US. Also, even they are trying to make cash before pirated copies come out. This problem can be solved if : 1) movie budget comes down 2) ticket prices come down a little in US. a family of 4 will have to spend $100 to watch it in theatre. Ridiculous price for many of us. UGLY - Lastly, Rajamouli was carried away when he was talking like that. He was wrong in the way he said what he said. Not sure because his movie lost money or because somebody asked him to say that. He has hurt the egos and feelings of lot of NRIs 1) who love telugu movies and admired him 2) those who have come far away from India and try sincerely to get Green Card 3) and what the heck he knows about how much mental struggle we go through As a successful director, he should have been more careful in his choice of words. |
