Never ever promise that you do something which is beyond capability, but tell them I have capability, or I can do it I will try blah blah...
keep everything documented for nexr yr

most importantly...document everything in your work...even a line of code you changed....because you can add all those things at the end of the yr,...

also add DB time...:D

always good to
1 document the next year expectations by your immedeate supervisor
2 if something changes in your job duties - review these and get these updated (this is very important)
3 grow avvali ani doola vunte.. half year review (leka poyina pettukoni) emi chesanu ippati daaka emi cheyyali ani adigithe point 2 above update cheyochu.. that way manager wont say you havent done this..

personnel management plays on ego.. nuvvu velli feedback iyyi ante 60% oopukuntu nuvvu ila chesthe bavuntundi tokka tholu antaru.. valla aakul satisfy aithay boss laga.. neeku advanced info vuntundi..

Performance Goals and Development Goals are different. Perf Goals come from your manager, based on the projects assigned to you for that fiscal year. Development Goals are the one you identify to reach, and your manager should agree.
Keep revisiting them with your manager atleast once a quarter to ensure you are aligned, however as everyone said at the end of the day it all comes down to what your boss can do depending on a lot of factor which may or may be be in his contol.
And yes, you are competing with all other FTEs at your grade level in your extended group. A relationship with your manager's boss always helps to get visibility, however its only possible if you are assigned to such projects. Its a catch 22. You are assigned to high visible projects if you are visible to your mgmt and you can get visiblity only if you get to work on such :-) HTH

I worked 10 hours daily...I accomplisedh thissu, thatooo antay....
boss gaadu...try to work 11 hours daily and improve accomplishements a bit more, so that i can consider you for promotion next year...antaadu. lol
