Defense Minister Dawood Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Assef Shawkat -- al-Assad's brother-in-law -- and Hasan Turkmani, al-Assad's security adviser and assistant vice president, were killed in an explosion at a national security building in Damascus, state TV reported.
