Gabbar Singh was better than Businessman, but that is not saying much. Both were almost like low budget movies made with poor quality technical inputs, too much hero focus, extremely poor screenplays etc. DD lo telefilms quality iddarivi. | ||

Eega my review - Gopalan Innovation Mall, Bangalore I saw Eega last night at Gopalan mall, 10 pm show. The show was housefull. I have got out of my phase of writing long reviews. So will keep it short. The movie is truly one of the most entertaining Telugu movies I have seen of late. It is simple, clean fun. No heroines gyrating like vamps, no untalented hacks passing off as music directors, no noisy background scores, no unnecessary scenes or comedy tracks, tight screenplay barring a couple of scenes in the second half. The acting was top notch – Nani, Samantha and Sudeep was all wonderful. Sudeep was truly fantastic – his role could have easily ended up as cartoonish character, but he maintained a fine balance between villainy and comedy. Samantha was lovely and her role was nicely etched. Nani, as always, impresses with his nice diction and timing. Keeravani’s music and BGM is one of the best in recent Telugu movies. Nowadays, barring Raja, most music directors, even Rahman, have the habit of passing off songs instrumental versions as BGM. Keeravani too does that often, but here because there are only 2 songs, he has to by force do some original BGM which is quite good. The credit for the movie should finally go to SS Rajamouli for above all getting the most out of everyone – actors, music directors, animators, art designers etc. The graphics are lovely, you never feel that you are watching an Indian movie nor do they feel out of place or inserted for kicks. They are so integral to the movie that after a point you stop thinking of the Eega as a special effect but as a normal character. The screenplay is fantastic and and there are some scenes that are truly world class in concept and execution – like the first few minutes after Eega takes birth – the scenes in the park especially. If I have some minor irks, they would be around the characterization of Nani and Sudeep. Could have been better etched, but that would have been at the risk of making the movie longer or the screenplay a bit loose. Rajamouli has been making his screenplays very tight, as we saw in Maryada Ramanna. This is a very good trend and hope he continues in this vein. In summary, the movie is a really good entertainer and a definite must watch. Much better than movies like Gabbar Singh or Businessman that I have seen this year. I would not call it a milestone etc. Such words are not to be used loosely. However we can safely say that Rajamouli a truly gifted director and by far the best Telugu director and one of the best in India. |
