Agreed - one of the most entertaining GS finals of late. Great all round court skills rather than a baseline slugfest. Lovely passing shots, wonderful volleying, lobs, overheads, slices, drop shots etc. Federer was absolutely magical in sets 3 and 4. He reminded me of the vintage Fed of the 2004 -2006 era. Even for an ardent Fed fan like me, i never believed that he could get back the No.1 ranking, though i thought that he could have won a Slam. It is difficult for people to grasp what Federer did when he held the No. 1 ranking for almost 5 years running. Just defending the No.1 ranking is so difficult, more so than getting the No. 1 ranking.

Truly truly blessed to be in this era. We are set for a great H2 with the Olympics and US Open coming up. I wish Murray can get the US Open, he has a good coach in Lendl who was a champ at US Open. We will have 4 different GS winners.

Greatest player to have ever picked up a tennis racquet!

i remember a-rod's comments after the 2004 wimbledon final " i threw the kitchen sink @ Roger but he went to the bathroom and got his tub!

murray might agree with him. one of the most entertaining finals - and it is a much needed contrast to the joker-rafa finals. these guys use the entire court and dont hang around the baseline for the entire length of the match. I hope murray translates his talent to results. Tennis would be very poor if murray didn't get the no.1 ranking and/or win slams. he is such a smart all-court player and so talented.

Fed - Bow to the Emperor of the Tennis Universe. Ever since he won his 1st wimbledon in 2003, I was positive he would win 18 slams at the least. If he keeps this up, I might have to update that number to 20! To have been born in this era to watch this magician conjure his tricks has been one of the privileges of my life.

Long Live The King! we might not see another sportsman like him in our life-time!
What the executioner did after he was done with his job. (4,6)

FED got a raw deal from many for his crying in AO 2009...people who couldn't find fault with his game, sportsmanship started picking on this one incident..

Every player even when he is the best will have some weakness and for federer it shows up in the form of Nadal...that's all

exactly. after all he is human. humans are not perfect. if somebody is perfect he will become god. he is not perfect coz he cant counter nadal.

but he is the greatest coz he has only one weakness thats nadal. when it comes to nadal he has so many weaknesses sometimes unknown players.

right he is second best even on clay. he is 4 runner ups and 1 champ even on clay.

he is th greatest player ever played as far as i am concerned

baaga cheppaavu...there was an argument in elite tennis forums about Federer beaing treated all time greatest while he could not beat Nadal in a GS during his current playing time...

1) For me Samprass is not a greatest player as he only reached French open SF once suggesting that clay is his enemy or he is not that all round a player...while for federer it's not clay it's Nadal...I read an article suggesting that Federer is the best on clay after Nadal of his generation...even blue clay win before suggests his adaptability.

2) Every player even when he is the best will have some weakness and for federer it shows up in the form of Nadal...that's all

Unorthodox:

it doesnt mean federer is less talented than nadal. its the matchup . federer plus points ni nadal counter cheyagaladu. weak points ni cash chesukogaladu. nadal weak points ni fed counter cheyaledu.

but when it comes to others others can counter nadals plus points by some unknown guys some times. thats not the case with federer.

its just bad match up for federer when it comes to nadal. nadal has 11 slams 7 of em clay. and thats not case with federer. he has 17 all around. even on clay he got one. ofcourse nadal was knocked out. still

fed is .......... the greatest

True...Even at this age Fed can beat anyone outside clay in GS...But he can never win against Nadal in a GS clay or no clay...during the past 2 years I thought Nadal has to exit the tourney for Fed to win a GS and it turned out to be true today.
