Hyderabad pubs lose out on Euro Cup 2012 HYDERABAD: Owners of sports bars and pubs in the city lament that they couldn't make the most of the biggest football tournament of the year, the Euro Cup 2012 due to the late night matches. As all pubs in the city are to be closed by 11.30 pm, managers and pub owners said that they lost out on a huge chunk of business due to the live telecast of the matches being scheduled after their closing time. Arun Paul, manager of Xtreme Sports Bar in Banjara Hills said, "We have easily lost out on at least 70 to 80 per cent of business. There are many football fans in the city who would love to watch the matches live over a couple of drinks. But due to the strict closing times that we have to adhere to, we just could not capitalise on the Euro Cup 2012 at all." Charles Emanuel, general manager of Game On in Karkhana said, "Our bar is in the cantonment area, so the closing times even more strict for us. Although in the group stages there were some matches scheduled before 12 pm, but all the major games from the quarter final stage onwards are at 12.15. We have no choice." Venkat K C, manager of 10 Sports Bar and Grill in Secunderabad said, "For every big match, we could have easily earned Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000. But even getting special permission for such events is very difficult and takes a lot of money. Being a sports bar we lost out on a major event.
