First of all Bank data bases cannot be so centralized that , accidental job would wipe all the data from all the tables I understand that data in few critical tables would have been erased accidentally which might have caused this situation. Purge jobs cannot be run on their own will and wish unless change management approves in big organizations. The whole story seems to be ridiculous | ||

data delete sessadanta kiki  RBS shares hammered as insiders claim lone Indian technician was cause of NatWest meltdown Royal Bank of Scotland was the biggest faller in the FTSE 100 yesterday as its computer meltdown played havoc with its share price as well as millions of customers. Shares slumped 9.1 per cent to 227.7p, meaning over £1.7billion was wiped off taxpayers’ 82 per cent stake in the bank since the problem started last Thursday. The stock recovered slightly, up 2.2p to 229.9p, in early trading today. The glitch has affected customers at RBS and its subsidiaries NatWest and Ulster Bank, with workers not receiving their wages and house purchases collapsing. Yesterday RBS and NatWest said they had almost cleared the backlog of transactions. But independent disputes arbitrator the Financial Ombudsman Service warned the chaos could go on for weeks and said it has been flooded with 500 calls a day from worried customers This raises the prospect of taxpayers’ £45.5billion stake in RBS taking a further hammering. Households around the country are sitting on a combined paper loss of almost £25billion. Sir Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England, yesterday called for a detailed inquiry into the debacle. The inquest into what caused the catastrophic IT error has begun and reports have suggested that one hapless Indian technician may have been responsible. The ‘inexperienced operative’ erased a massive swathe of information during a routine software upgrade for the Royal Bank of Scotland and its subsidiaries NatWest and Ulster Bank, according technology website The Register. The worker was understood to have been part of a team recruited in Hyderabad after the bank laid off more than 20,000 UK staff and outsourced work abroad. Deleted information had to be painstakingly re-entered into the bank group’s computer system, stalling an estimated 100million transactions. The site reported that the computer operator was carrying out an upgrade to the CA-7 software banks use to run their vast network of transactions. As he checked the update, he accidentally erased a mass of data, the site claimed, adding: ‘A major error was made. An inexperienced person cleared the whole queue... they erased all the scheduling.’ RBS refused to comment on the claims.
