I converted all my home PCs and macbook pro to use SSD for OS drive. This is one of the best upgrade i have ever seen. My 2 cents: -go with a minimum of 120GB. I started with 60GB, it was a pain to clean up every day. You have to do more work to move stuff around. for ex. iTunes write it to C: drive, all MS software writes majority of the file system to C:, plus OS upgrade. You pretty much fill up the drive very fast. -I shutdown my home every time now ( I used to keep it on all the time prior to upgrade). i can pretty much use the desktop in under 10 seconds (3rd generation quad core with 16gb ram). Same with macbook pro. -Everything is fast You will be happy with the upgrade. Lately you can get 120GB for around $80.. |

Simba:You look at configuration in terms of processor, memory, hard disk. That's about it. Vendors make different lines of products-- in economy line, leaving the processor aside, they use substandard components. High failure storage, inferior battery including cheap keyboard, plastic case. There are high chances of failure from any component. In the business/prof. line, the components are usually superior quality. For the same configuration, you pay premium but gives peace of mind. It's your call as what you want.
100% Agree with you... Also Hard disk failures depends on our habits...chala mandi music system/stero/woofer boxes place very close to PC's...hard disks used in PC's are not that vibration tolerant...these vibrations stress the needle...some people open lot of applications at a same time, forcing the processor to fetch data from multiple locations in hard disk....manchi product konatam entha importantoo alage ela use chetshunnam annadi kuda important...Laptops lo unde hard disks 2.5 inch more vibrant tolerant..still opening hundreds of applications not a gud idea NenoDi neeve gelichi... nee gelupu naadani thalachi... raagaalu ranjilu roje raaji rammanTi |

It's funny that everyone has bad experience with one brand or other. You know that Ford also makes Lincoln/Jaguar and GMC makes Cadillac. Quality comes with premium. |

Have been using SSD in HTPC for past 3 years. I turn on HTPC only when needed and OS (win 7) boots lightning fast. Programs (media players) launch much quicker and play media off secondary (SATA) drive or over network. No issues so far. |

Solid state drives, you will see the performance bump right away...it's just a magnified version of USB flash drive..only difference is read and write times are around the same..USB flash drive write times are longer compared to read times. Unfortunaetly there is not much development in magnetic disc technology from past 10 years..we still have 7200RPM Hard disks...if you drop magnetic hard disk...gone case..there is no such prob with SSD's ...only disadvantage with solid state drives is they have running hours limitations..like after 50K hours memory cells die....so if you want to use it for 5 years and looking for speed improvement go for SSD's NenoDi neeve gelichi... nee gelupu naadani thalachi... raagaalu ranjilu roje raaji rammanTi |
