Please note it takes about 15 days under normal procedures to get the body to home country. 1. The Police and medical authorities do an examination. This can be about 1-3 days. 2. An authorization letter needs to be sent from family members authorizing someone in the US(either a friend or relative or company HR) to do the formalities and paperwork. 3. Death certificate needs to be issued. 4. Please note the cops are pretty strict and they donât let anyone else have access or even see the body. 5. Then they have to do an embalment process. Can be 1-2 days, depends on few things. 6. Then it is not handed to anybody, but it is handed to a funeral home. 7. Paperwork needs to be sent to the nearest Indian embassy/consulate. 8. As per the information provided to us, shipping the body is done only through Newyork. 9. So the body has to be shipped from the respective location in US to Newyork. 10. There are quite some expenses involved, in many cases if the person is working for a software company I would think there should be insurance coverage. 11. If insurance coverage is there, most of the expenses are taken care by them. During the normal process itself it takes about 15 days, so if there is any pending arrest warrant or police investigation it would take much longer. | ||
