The discovery of residues of a banned antibiotic drug in shrimps imported from India is causing concern in the United States.
Samples of imported seafood picked up from grocery stores in New York were tested by the Institute of Environmental and Human Health at Texas Tech University for the presence of antibiotic drugs.

About 10 per cent of the 30 samples tested contained antibiotic residues in excess of permissible limits. In two samples - one from India and the other from Thailand - a banned antibiotic, nitrofuranzone, was found.
