they are two big ifs. i am heavily in ABX, KGC and RGLD. suffering quite a bit. Better than NEM, look at KGC (largest reserves after ABX) and PVG. NEM is good though. basic reason Gold Producers have gained last two days is South Africa changed some taxes on gold producers favorably. that put the whole sector in a positive light. Newmont Mining (NEM)—the world's second-largest gold producer, after Barrick Gold (ABX), and the only gold-mining stock in the S&P 500—is an attractive way to play this trend. In this year's first quarter, it derived 70% of its gold production from North America and the Asia Pacific region, though the 91-year-old company also has operations in Peru, Mexico, and Ghana. The company's earnings are expected to hit a record $2.4 billion, or $4.85 a share, this year on a 6% increase in revenue, to $10.9 billion. Analysts see earnings climbing 15%, to $5.56, in 2013. And the company, which yields 3.1%, has one of the best returns on capital in the industry. bottom line: At around $46, Newmont's shares are near their 52-week low, trading at just eight times 2013 estimates.
