With the Enforcement Directorate, too, entering the scene in connection with the alleged illegal assets case of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, the debate among the political circles in the state is what would happen next. On Tuesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation told the court that it had no objection to giving first charge sheet copy to the Enforcement Directorate. In all probability, the ED will get the copy of the charge sheet against Jagan. The ED has more powers than the CBI. While the CBI confines to the criminal prosecution of the accused in the case, the ED has powers to attach and confiscate properties till the investigation is completed. So, the next step would be the ED attaching the properties of Jagan. He would be allowed to possess the properties but should not do any transactions. It would also probe into the violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) by Jagan's companies in bringing foreign equity from companies in Singapore, Malaysia, Mauritius, Luxembourg and British Virgin Islands. So, the troubles for Jagan would be compounded further, irrespective of his party's performance in the by-elections. |
