Superb. Jagan has played his politics perfectly so far. He hasn't yet made a mistake in his meterotical rise. But he has to be careful from now on. These 18 byelections are very important to ysrc future. His strategy of ignoring the marragujju nayakulu of the state and creating an image of fighting with Delhi is paying rich dividends. He should continue with that strategy but at the same time not antagonize Delhi severly. That balance maintain cheyyaali. Vijayawada: The accidental death of Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy on September 2, 2009 had generated sympathy for his family and it provided a strong cover for the late leader’s young heir, YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Though this cover was tactically raised by the maverick K V P Ramachandra Rao, at the spur of the moment when sympathy wave was at its peak, YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy was able to continue it for his political upsurge in the State. Jagan started his political journey from Nallakaluva in Nallamala forest, where his father died in a helicopter crash, and the journey continues despite against several odds. Though the debate over the number of suicides and heart attacks that are stated to have occurred in the State following the death of YSR continues, Jaganmohan Reddy was able to cash in on the sympathy. His odarpu yatra to meet the family members of these dead had consolidated his base in the coastal districts. His daring decision to defy the mighty powers, his continued interface with the people for days together, since then had consolidated the sympathy among the people, more preciously among the Dalits, Christians and other Backward Classes. While the criminal cases, continued investigations and strong criticism from the Congress and Telugu Desam are seen as political strategy by those in power to beat the young leader, the same factors are helping him further consolidate his base among the poorer sections. Those who look at Jaganmohan Reddy with sympathy call the legal and political battles against him as witch-hunt and this consolidates the sympathy circle around the young leader. 15 per cent dalits and five per cent Christians among them, the six to seven per cent of the neglected castes of the Backward Classes, like Salivahana (Kummari), Padmasali, Rajaka (Washermen), Nayee Brahmin (Barbers), Thogati, Kuruma, and a few more and the converted Christians from the upper castes like Reddys, Kammas and OBCs are currently rallying behind Jaganmohan Reddy on sympathy and gratitude towards YSR’s programmes. Besides them, a few hundreds of families from the upper castes, including the TD’s strong base of Kamma community, who were benefited by the Rajiv Arogya Sri scheme, and they are ready to pay their gratitude to the late leader for the help and this would give Jaganmohan Reddy a one-time benefit in this by-election. Interestingly, most of these castes and communities are concentrated in the Coastal and Rayalaseema districts, where by-elections are held and it is on this factor, the YSR Congress leaders are banking more for their victory.
