Fed is unfazed. I agree the key is with bird. To win he has to up his game and viceversa. The way he did delpotro and verdasco, I thot he had chances to win all the way. as I told you, THIS YEAR, they have been deducting points 1 week early, but that is not how they do it USUALLY! USUALLY, they deduct and add points AFTER a tournament is over. there are exceptions and this year is different from how ATP does it. v-man: if you like open, try j-mac's "you cannot be serious" it's my all time favourite tennis book. you can also try sampras' bio - it is not great, but if you were a pete fan like me, you will like it. another book you might like is "strokes of genius" - it's about the epic wimbledon 2008 final. rafa's bio called "rafa" is a good read too. another book i love is high strung, it is about another great rivalry - j-mac and borg. you should also try "bjorn borg, my life and game". i am not a borg fan, but still loved it. dude was perhaps the greatest star tennis has ever seem. like tendulkar in cricket, he had total god-like following! last but not the least, you should try "quest for perfection" a book on the swiss maestro. i will also recommend you read an article called "federer as a religious experience" by a guy called david foster wallace. it is one of the greatest literary piece in all sport. You seem to be correct. But, Nadal's points tally is not matching...on 04/30, He is 10,170 and 5/7 it's 9615( difference of 555 points, not 600). | ||

not true. tournament finish ayyaka last year points deduct chesi, present year lo vochhina points add chestaru. this is how it is usually done. as i mentioned earlier, due to schedule change this year points are being deducted one week early. taking rafa and roger's case, on monday, fed will have 8520+1000-90 =9430. rafa will have 9615+90-600 = 9105. if they had not had the schedule change, fed would have had 8520+1000 = 9520, rafa would have had 9615+90 = 9705. (Italian open points from last year would have been deducted next sunday, may 20th! hope i've made it clear. anyways, bottomline, fed is world number 2 if he beats t-bird What the executioner did after he was done with his job. Those were their points starting this Monday 5/7, before Madrid started....Based on their performance in this year tournament and how they fared last year...points get added/deducted after tournament is completed. Not sure what you mean by already teesesaaru. | ||

This is how it works. Right now, Nadal has 9615 and ROger has 8520 points.They have to defend the points they earned last year. Nadal reached final last year.So, he has to defend 600 points.Since he lost in 3rd round, he got only 90 points, remaining 510 will get deducted. Roger reached semifinal last year. So, he has to defend 360 points.If he wins madrid, the extra points (1000-360=640) gets added. So, If Roger wins madrid, Starting Monday 5/14, He will be ranked 2nd. Starting monday, Roger ATP points will be 9160 (8520 + 640) and Nadal ATP points will be 9105 (9615-510). For Rome, Nadal has to defend 600 points where as Roger has to defend only 90. Hopefully he remains 2nd after rome as well and does not have to meet Nadal/Joker until finals in French. | ||

@v-man : been on the road a lot. hope things are all dandy on your side. madrid surface just gives a glimpse of tennis in the 90s. now think of this slick surface with grass. rafa/nole are whining too much. the court is tricky but the monsters are in their head - like kids complaining of monsters under their bed or in a dark alley! azarenka can never be henin-2. her game doesn't have the grace/elegance/majesty/creativity that henin's game has. but azarenka can be a azarenka-1. clean ball-striking with pin-point timing and laser like precision on the groundies. the jury is still out. she needs to dominate an entire season and she needs to checkmate the williams sis dominance on the fast courts for me to enter her into the elite. serena looks good for a GS @ sw19 or flushing meadows if not @roland garros. as for books, you interested only in biographies or general tennis books? sachin: generally they remove a tournaments points from the year before after the tourney is completed. take madrid for example, what atp generally does is when madrid finishes on sunday, at midnight that day (dont know which time zone, guess EST) they remove fed's 360 points from last year (semi-final finish) and add his 1000 points ( if he wins the final) from this year. they do so for all the players and list out the rankings for the week of may 14. this year, the atp made some schedule changes moving all tournaments 1 week later. the result is that the madrid points of last year have already been removed on midnight of last sunday, may 6 instead of doing it on may 13 as they should. this is going to be the case till wimbledon for sure. (i have to confirm if they moved tournaments after that as well). this works to fed's benefit as he did not have great results in the 1st half, except for final at french. it is a double whammy for nole/rafa because they made all finals from monaco to wimbledon. there is a very realistic chance that fed could get number 1 by wimbledon, if he keeps up this level! Yepp.. longtime no c.. The way he got ferrer, I think no stopping him. Ferrer can be pretty dangerous on clay but looks like age is getting better of him. Bird revamped his game and he is the only credible opponent. Very recently completed 'Open' by Agassi.. wow man.. it was good.. any suggestions on good tennis [auto]biographies??
