 Bhayya Even though the TV ratings of the IPL 2012 have dropped drastically, Sahara owned Pune Warriors seems to be the most popular team in this season of IPL with maximum cricket fans following the team’s matches both in the stadium and on the TV. The youngest team in the IPL, Pune has topped the popularity charts outpacing teams like Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi. In addition to Pune’s improved performance in the current season, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly’s charisma is also believed to be behind the team’s newfound popularity. According to the viewership data released by TAM Sports, the average rating for the first 27 matches of the fifth season of IPL stands at 3.53, lower than IPL 4?s average of 3.88 and lowest among all seasons of IPL. Out of these 27 matches, only 10 matches have received rating of more than 4. Pune Warriors India has been involved in these matches (with TV rating 4+) most of the time. According to an analysis by e4m, a marketing, advertising and media portal, it is the ‘Dada factor’ which is working in favor of the Pune based IPL team. Not just on the TV, the stadiums hosting Pune Warriors matches also get packed and at home the team enjoys unbelievable crowd support. How can a team which finished ninth among 10 teams in the first season, garner such a huge support base in just one year? | ||

how come eden gardens match was like a home game to pwi, if bengal disowned its favorite cricketing son? like or hate, scg gets bottoms in seats in stadia and in front of TVs. at the end of the day, that is what matters. I am sure anyone investing money will do so only if it is profitable. there is no doubt that PWI brand value is much higher this year than last year. one of the biggest reason for that is dada. i actually think srk should sell kkr to mr. roy and buy deccan chargers and name it hyderabad nizams are something. it is sad to see DC being the only team without a city name/state name. Dada has been, arguably, the story of this ipl.IPL is as much about TRPs, big bucks, fans in stadium, as it is about scoring runs. Dada failed on the 2nd front, but SRT, msd, raina and kohli have failed too. but dada has scored big time with the former. Unlike indian cricket, IPL needs multiple stars and dada has definitely given the league major fillip in that respect. his move to bowl himself against a rampaging KP and get a win against double Ds and his critical knock in his hometown in a totally tension-filled and super charged Eden gardens are some of the dada moments that will be resonating loudly in cricket history. ofcourse there have been goof-ups like bowling the 18th over against DC and not playing rahul sharma in a few critical matches, but dada has contributed more to PWI than two youngsters who need to take a hard look at themselves. pandey and uthappa, i am talking about you. if either of those 2 lived up to their potential, PWI would have been in the top 4 this year. au revoir dada! thanks for the memories and moments you conjured up this IPL! IPL 5 will be Sourav Ganguly's last as a player: Subrata Roy Season 5 of the Indian Premier League may just be the last one we will see of Sourav Ganguly as a player and captain, as the former India skipper now wants to only be the mentor of the Pune Warriors team in the next season. With Pune out of race for a place in the play-offs, Ganguly is likely to miss the remaining three games. Speaking exclusively to NDTV, Pune team owner Subrata Roy Sahara said: "Sourav wants to give youngsters a chance in the last games." Roy also clarified that Ganguly was just interested in being the mentor of the side this season but he pushed him to play and lead the side. "Sourav will be the mentor next season. We pushed him to play in IPL 5." |
